Coordination Meeting

With financial support from the Toledo Zoo, a crucial coordination meeting was held on May 28th, 2025, at the Baglung Division Forest Office. The gathering convened Divisional Forest Officers (DFOs) from Baglung (Saroj Panthi), Myagdi (Bishnu Prasad Adhikari), and Parbat districts (Hemlal Neupane), along with Wildlife Warden Pashupati Adhikari from the Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve and Senior Forest Officer Jhyam Narayan Sapkota from the Forest Directorate of Gandaki Province. Other officials, including Chandramani Sapkota, Sita Sharma, Bina Kumari Rajbamshi, Man Kumar Chhantyal, Narayan Raj Sapkota, and Shobha KC, were also present, bringing the total participation to 30 individuals.

The meeting's primary objective was to foster collaborative efforts in the ongoing monitoring and conservation of wildlife, especially the cheer pheasant, which is prevalent in these districts. This collaboration leverages the close operational proximity of DFOs, who manage forest divisions, and wardens, who are dedicated to wildlife protection within designated areas. During the discussions, preliminary results from past and present Cheer Pheasant surveys were shared by NOU President Hathan Ram Mahato, Treasurer Manshanta Ghimire, and Executive Director Laxman Prasad Poudyal. Discussions then moved to comprehensive plans and policies for conserving the Cheer Pheasant and other globally threatened species, including the red panda, musk deer, and snow leopard.
