Cheer Pheasant Conservation Workshop

On March 16, 2025, the Nepalese Ornithological Union (NOU), in collaboration with the Natural History Museum (NHM), organized a workshop titled “Cheer Pheasant Conservation in Nepal” at the NHM seminar hall in Kathmandu. The opening session, chaired by NOU President Hathan Chaudhary, NOU Executive Director Laxman Prasad Poudyal provided welcome remarks and a talk on "Cheer Pheasant Research & Conservation in Nepal," featuring updates on the Cheer Pheasant Conservation in Nepal supported by Toledo Zoo (2022-2025). Following this, featured remarks from Sujan Maharjan (Chure Resilient Project), Dr. Hari Prasad Sharma (TU and Nepal Zoological Society), and Dr. Thakur Silwal (Dean, Institute of Forestry). Dr. Ishan Gautam (Chief, NHM) offered concluding remarks, and President Chaudhary concluded the session.

Subsequently, two technical sessions were held, chaired by Rajendra Suwal (ornithologist, WWF Nepal) and Dr. Bishnu Prasad Bhattarai (lecturer, TU CDZ). Six presentations were delivered during the technical session.

  • Future Priorities (by Laxman Prasad Poudyal & Suraj Baral)

Valuable comments and suggestions were contributed by a diverse group of participants, including representatives from WWF Nepal, NTNC, BCN, IUCN, TU, NHM, NOU, BIOCOS Nepal, NBRC, various organizations, and individual experts, highlighting the collaborative works needed in the future.
