Cheer Pheasant Conservation Education and Training

On November 4–5, 2025, a comprehensive conservation training program was successfully conducted at Buddi Bikas Secondary School in Mudi, Myagdi, focusing on the protection of avian species and the globally threatened Cheer Pheasant. Located at an elevation of 1,880 meters, the school hosted 62 eager Eco-club students from grades 8 through 10. The session provided a deep dive into avian biology, the ecological importance of birds as pollinators and pest controllers, and the specific habitats they occupy. By exploring the diverse "Animal Kingdom" and the unique characteristics of vertebrates, students gained a foundational understanding of the natural world before tackling the serious threats facing Nepal's bird populations, such as habitat fragmentation and climate change.

The highlight of the event was a specialized focus on the Cheer Pheasant, where students learned about its legal status, elevation range, and the critical conservation challenges it faces. Through interactive discussions and a competitive quiz, 34 boys and 28 girls were empowered to take on active roles as young conservationists. The training emphasized the students' responsibilities in safeguarding local biodiversity, concluding with a feedback session where teachers and participants alike expressed a renewed commitment to protecting the rare pheasant species and their fragile mountain ecosystems.

At the end, a conservation quiz competition was organized, and the following students participated in the program:
